At a higher price than the Apple tablet (£668.19 on Amazon.co.uk), this 7″ tab that aims to dethrone the Ipad, will have a tough task entering the market where consumers will see their minds divided into going for this smaller Android powered device with video call  capabilities, or going for the bigger screen, long battery life  and extremely successful App Store.

Will this tablet make a dent in a market currently reigned by the colossus Ipad or will the higher price and smaller screen prevent this Tablet from going mainstream?

It seems that Samsung who has delivered state of the art MP3 players, TVs and smart phones in the last few months is going to produce the best Ipad option in the market, with a release date set for November 1st the Samsung Galaxy Tab promises to be as exciting as its other member of the family, the Samsung Galaxy Smart phone.

With a price tab that will be around $300 to $400 ccording to the Korean Times, Samsung Galaxy Tab will surely cause a dent in a market occupied in it’s entirety by the Apple star.

Was this a moneymaking strategy or simply a way of being the first in the market, probably both.

In any case, the success of the first version of the Ipad is undeniable with sales that top the 4.5 million units per quarter and gaining momentum towards the Christmas season.

So what’s  rumoured to be next for the Ipad family?

• Front and rear facing cameras for facetime calling
• Increased storage, possibly a 128 GB version
• Possibly two sizes (current 9,7″ and 7″) to compete in a lower price market
• Increased screen resolution, possibly using a version of the Iphone’s retina
• SD card reader and HDMI output are big maybes as they are currently available as Ipad Accessories.
• Possibly a white version as well even though recent problems with the white Iphone 4 may render this a bit difficult to achieve

While some of these assumptions seem like a no brainer, other less possible ones are circulating as well, such as increased sensitivity in the back of the Ipad to not only capture the position it’s being held but also the strength, Near Field Communications (NFC) to allow its iOS devices to act as wireless wallets, etc.

Here is a video concept created by Joy Studios, even though it looks like a giant white Iphone 4, the mock ups are pretty well designed and if I didn’t know they came from Joy Studios I would believed someone in Apple was sharing more than they should.

First of all it’s widely known that the ASUS Eee Pad will be released in both Android and Windows versions, and the once thing we know is that the Android version will be released some time in March 2011 and it’ll cost around $399, where the Windows 7 Version will cost the heft amount of $1000 which will put it in a serious disadvantage from the Android version and it’s main competitor Apple’s Ipad.

But news don’t stop there, it seems that the ASUS Eee Pad Windows 7 version will have the following specs:

• Of course WiFi connectivity

• 16 or 32 GB of internal storage
• 4 to 6 hour long lasting battery
• And it’ll weight artound 650 grams (about 1.43 lbs)

This pplication connects to my Imac at home and allows me to access my video folders and play smoothly (depending on my internet connection) the videos I have in those folders, the cool thing is that the videos aren’t ready to be played on the Ipad, AirVideo will convert them for you  and it can even do it on the fly as you are watching it (I’ve gotten mixed results with this later option)

Keynote for Ipad

I’m an SEO consultant and I visit a lot of clients showing the presentatios, the first accessory I bought for my Ipad was a VGA connector dongle so I could use it to show my presentations. Apple’s keynote works smoothly and looks great on the Ipad it can even import Microsoft PowerPoint presentations to the Ipad (some things will be out of place), not a very powerful tool but definetelly a very useful one when it comes to travel light.

The rating system will allow you to quickly choose the best recipe for that special meal you want to cook.

Empty fridge? no worries just put the ingredients you have available and Epicurious will certainly find a recipe that can adapt to whatever you have in your pantry.

Angry Birds HD for Ipad

I loved the Iphone game and I love even more the game for the Ipad, it’s bigger and brighter, it’s almost the same game but I don’t care, it’s hours and hours of entertainment assured.

For those who don’t know the Iphone game, this game is about throwing birds on a slingshot to structures that house green pigs that need to be destroyed so the objective is to shoot the birds in the right places of the structures so the come down on the pigs. Sounds silly but extremely entertaining and graphics are great!

DocstoGo for Ipad

DocstoGo is a pretty cool app that will allow you to edit Word, Powerpoint and Excel files up to a certain level, it can even connect to your cloud (Google Docs, Dropbox, Box.net, etc) so you can edit the documents stored there. Italso supports Itunes fileshare system  so you can transfer documents through Itunes or edit or save them directly from the Ipad’s email appplication

There’s been much talking about using the Ipad as an Ebook reader with pros and cons flying around. Yes the Ipad will tire your eyes as any laptop screen, the more you increase its brightness the more it will put a strain in your eyes, but that won’t stop users from using it as an Ebook reader and the truth is that it will push Ebook reader manufactures to evolve faster to keep up with the “pros” of the Ipad. Apple’s fre app, looks like a shelve empty of books at the beginning but that you can quickly fill up with books from the Ebook store. Iboos works with the universal Epub Ebook format, but can also read PDFs from your emails or if you sync them in your Itunes.

Webalbums for Ipad

I was one of the early adopters of the web albums by picasa, I liked storing my photos where I could access them anywhere I wanted (and I had an Internet connection), so one of the first apps that I looked for once I spolied myself with the Ipad was to find an app that would allow me to access my online albums, I like Cooliris for the Iphone but there is nothing from Cooliris available yet for the Ipad so the next best thing was Webalbums. This app looks very similar to the photoalbums app that comes with the Ipad, so much like it that they had to remove the pinch out feature in order to be able to publish the app in the Itunes store because it went against Apple regulations. This app is fast and reliable granted that it’s missing being able to have multiple accounts, it’s still enough to satisfy my current needs.

But there is a major glitch that is tainting the Ipad´s success. It seems that some people in fact, many people are having problems with the Ipad Wifi connection, and it seems to be a quite spreadout problem caused by uncompatible routers and different configuration problems.

In fact there is a thread in Apple´s support forums called “Weak wifi” that already has  more than 130,000 visits.

If your Ipad is affected by this wifi problem, read below on some tips that you can follow

What You Can Do:

• Increase your Ipad´s Brightness:  Silly as it sounds, this small change in the configuration has solved the problem to more than one desperate user.
  
• Update Your Router’s Firmware. You should always have your router´s software updated, but if you have been so careless up until now, then it´s time for the long needed update.
• Change The Router’s Location. before doing anything make sure that the signal is strong enough, and your Ipad is able to receive a full stream from your router.Set Your Router To  802.11 Standard. Set your router to operate  on the greatest standard available, you will have to change the other devices on your network as well. The iPad ships with support for 802.11n,.
• Change Your Router’s Security Encryption. Typically, security isn’t something that should be experimented with, but when attempting to boost network performance, it may be necessary. There’s no question that WPA and WPA2 encryption is more secure than WEP, but the jury’s still out about which encryption method can slow a network down more (some believe it’s WEP and others WPA). If you have either currently deployed in your home network, try changing to a different encryption setting and see if that makes any difference in your connectivity. Apple also recommends that you use the same security settings across the entire network.
• Rename Your Networks. Apple makes the somewhat odd suggestion that users rename their networks. “Create separate Wi-Fi network names to identify each band. This can be done easily by appending one or more characters to the current network name. Example: Add a G to the 802.11b/g network name and an N to the 802.11n network name.”
