Ever since the Ipad was launched, rumours of a second improved version have circulated around, the fact that the Ipad seems to lack of crucial elements that would turn it into a better replacement of a home computer hit that Apple was just paving the road for a better and groundbreaking tablet.
Was this a moneymaking strategy or simply a way of being the first in the market, probably both.
In any case, the success of the first version of the Ipad is undeniable with sales that top the 4.5 million units per quarter and gaining momentum towards the Christmas season.
So what’s rumoured to be next for the Ipad family?
- Front and rear facing cameras for facetime calling
- Increased storage, possibly a 128 GB version
- Possibly two sizes (current 9,7″ and 7″) to compete in a lower price market
- Increased screen resolution, possibly using a version of the Iphone’s retina
- SD card reader and HDMI output are big maybes as they are currently available as Ipad Accessories.
- Possibly a white version as well even though recent problems with the white Iphone 4 may render this a bit difficult to achieve
While some of these assumptions seem like a no brainer, other less possible ones are circulating as well, such as increased sensitivity in the back of the Ipad to not only capture the position it’s being held but also the strength, Near Field Communications (NFC) to allow its iOS devices to act as wireless wallets, etc.

Here is a video concept created by Joy Studios, even though it looks like a giant white Iphone 4, the mock ups are pretty well designed and if I didn’t know they came from Joy Studios I would believed someone in Apple was sharing more than they should.
